Sinhala Keyboard

System Requirements

Sinhala Keyboard is a web application meaning that it can be accessed on any device with an internet web browser. Internet browsers with CSS3 support is recommended. Including: Internet Explorer 9+, Chrome 4+, Firefox 3.5+(partial support) 22+ (full support), Safari 4+, Opera 15+, iOS Safari 4.1+, Android Browser 2.3+, Chrome for Android 51+, IE Mobile 10+, UC Browser for Android 9.9+, Samsung Internet 4+. Older browsers only have partial functionality.

Sinhala Typing

Mouse click on a key (button) in the on screen Sinhala keyboard generates the character in the selected location (cursor position or highlighted range) in the textarea.

• Vowels (අ,ඉ,උ...) are typed in as a single character. Signs (්,ා,ැ...) generally are not conjoined to vowels.
• Consonants (ක,ග,ච...) should be typed before the sign even if the sign appears prior to the consonant in the sequence of characters ( e.g. ක then ෙ produces කෙ).
• Special signs, ්‍ර (or ්ර) and ්‍ය (or ්ය) should be typed straight after the consonant. Additional signs can be inserted thereafter.
• Certain signs keys produces varying character shapes based on the attached consonant ( eg. ම + ු → මු whereas ක + ු → කු and ක + ් → ක් whereas ම + ් → ම් )

NB: Sinhala Keyboard does not contain all the characters used in the Sinhala script. However, attempts were made to ensure that most characters in the Sinhala alphabet are available. Those that do not appear could be inserted into the textarea by changing the language setting of the physical keyboard and pressing the appropriate keys.

Other Buttons/Features

• (backspace) – Deletes the previous character (from the position of the cursor).
• (space) – Creates an empty space in the textarea.
• (common script characters) – Regularly used characters in the Sinhala script.
• (rare script characters) – Rarely used characters in the Sinhala script.
• (numerals-symbols) - Numbers and symbolic characters.
• (copy) – Copy the content in the textarea to your clipboard (to be pasted where applicable).
• (undo) – Retrieve content from upto 10 previous actions.
• (redo) – Returns the content back to the original from an undo step.
• (clear all) – Deletes all content in the textarea.

Workspace setup

Sinhala keyboard allows you to resize the textarea and change the font size in the textarea. Simply replace default values and click "Ok" to change settings.

• Width – The default width of the textarea is 100% (i.e width of the keyboard). It can be increased (e.g. 150%) or decreased (e.g. 50%) as a percentage or another appropriate unit of measurement (e.g. 500em, 1000px, etc.).
• Height – Change the height of the textarea from the default (100px) by replacing the value to a desired height in an appropriate unit of measurement (px, em).
• Font size – Is the size of the font in the textarea. It is not the size of the font that would appear once pasted to a html or text document (e.g. word document). The option was created to allow the user to view the content at a desired font size.
• Keyboard text size - Is the font size of the script characters on the keyboard.
• Fixed keyboard and/or menu - Checking the selection box(s) locks the keyboard and/or menu in to a fixed position on the screen.
• Default button – Returns editable values back to default settings.

හැදින්වීම (Introduction)

Sinhala Keyboard (සිංහල කීබෝඩ්) යනු බ්‍රවුසර් (browser) ක්‍රමලේඛ (program) මගින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන application එකකි. එයින් textarea එකකට සිංහෙළන් ටයිප් කිරීමට ඉඩ ලබාදේ. ටයිප් කළ තොරතුරු MS application වලට (උදා: Windows OS, Word, Notepad, WordPad, etc.) සහ අන්තර් ඡාලයේ text ඇතුල් කීරීමට තිබෙන ස්ථානයටද ( උදා: e-mail, HTML document textboxes, etc.) cut and paste කළ හැකිය. Sinhala Keyboard භාවිතා කිරීමට අවශ්‍යදේ පහත විස්තර කර ඇත.

කොම්පියුටර් system අවශ්‍යතා (system requirements)

Sinhala Keyboard එක ඉන්ටනෙට් බ්‍රවුසර් ප්‍රෝග්‍රෑම් (internet browser program) එකක් මගින් ක්‍රියාත්මක වේ. එය උපරිම පරිදි ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට ඉන්ටනෙට් බ්‍රවුසර් ප්‍රෝග්‍රෑම් (internet browser program) එකේ CSS3 පහසුකම තිබිය යුතුය. පැරණි බ්‍රවුසර් version යොදාගත්විට එය අඩක් ක්‍රියාත්මක වීමට හෝ ක්‍රියාත්මක නොවීමට ඉඩ ඇත.

සිංහලෙන් ටයිප් කිරීම

මවුස් (mouse) එක මගින් on-screen keyboard එකේ ඇති අකුරකට click කළවිට‚ එම අකුර textarea එකේ (cursor තිබෙන ස්ථානයේ) ටයිප්වේ.

• ප්‍රාණාක්ෂර (අ,ඉ,උ...) තනි අකුරු ලෙස ටයිප් විය යුතුය. සලකුණු (්,ා,ැ...) සාමාන්‍යයෙන් ප්‍රාණක්ෂර සමග සම්බන්ධ නොවේ.
• නිත්‍ය අක්ෂර (ක,ග,ච...) මුලින් ටයිප් කල යුතු අතර‚ සලකුණ ඊටපසුව ටයිප් කරන්න. සලකුණ ඉදිරියෙන් තිබුනද‚ එය නිත්‍ය අක්ෂරයට පසුව ටයිප් කල යුතුය. (උදා:- “කෙ” ටයිප් කිරීමට අවශ්‍යවූ විට “ක” පලමුව ටයිප් කර පසුව “ෙ” (කොම්බුව) ටයිප් කිරීමෙන් “කෙ” අකුර ඇතිවේ.
• විශේෂ සලකුණු ( ්‍ර or ්ර and ්‍ය or ්ය) ටයිප් කලයුතු වන්නේ නිත්‍ය අක්ෂරය ටයිප් කිරීමෙන් පසුවය. තවත් අමතර සලකුණු මේ ආකාරයට එකතු කල හැකිය.
• එකම සලකුනක් වුවද වෙනත් නිත්‍ය අක්ෂර හා සම්බන්ධ කරන විට, එහි හැඩය වෙනස් විය හැක ( උදා: ම+ු→මු , ක+ු→කු   හා   ම+්→ම්, ක+්→ක් )

සැලකිය යුතුයි: සිංහල හෝඩියේ ඇති අකුරු සියල්ලම Sinhala Keyboard එකට ඇතුලත්ව නැත. එසේ වුවත් නිතර භාවිතාවන සිංහල හෝඩියේ අක්ෂර ඇතුලත් කිරීමට උත්සාහ ගෙනඇත. එහෙත් එසේ නැතිවිට language setting වෙනස්කොට physical keyboard එකෙහි නියමිත අකුරු textarea එකට ටයිප් කල හැකිය. නැතහොත් වෙනත් ක්‍රමද ඇත (උදා:- සිංහල අක්ෂර පෙන්නුම්කරන image file මගින්).

අමතර Buttons/ලක්ෂණ

• (Backspace) – Cursor තිබෙන ස්ථානයේ පෙර අක්ෂරය මකා ඳැවේ.
• (Space) – Textarea එකේ හිස් ඉඩක් ඇති කරයි.
• (common script characters) – නිතර භාවිතාවන සිංහල හෝඩියේ අක්ෂර.
• (rare script characters) – විශීෂ්ට සිංහල අක්ෂර.
• (numerals-symbols) - අංක හා ලකුණු.
• (copy) – textarea එකේ ටයිප් කළ තොරතුරු clipboard එකට කොපිවේ (එය උචිත ස්ථානයකට paste කළ හැකිය) .
• (undo) – Undo button එක එබීමෙන් පසුගිය ක්‍රියාවලි (actions) 10ක් දක්වා නිෂ්ප්‍රභාකෙරේ.
• (redo) – Redo button එක එබීමෙන් undo කල ක්‍රියාවල් නැවත ගෙන්වා ගැනීමට හැකිය.
• Clear All) – Textarea එකේ ටයිප් කරන ලද සම්පූර්ණ text කොටසම මකා දමයි.

Workspace සැකසීම

Sinhala Keyboard මගින් textarea එකෙහි ප්‍රමාණය (size) වෙනස් කළහැකි අතර, අකුරේ ප්‍රමාණය (font size)වෙනස් කිරීමටද පුලුවන. පලමුවෙන් තිබෙන ප්‍රමාණය (Default value) වෙනස් කොට "Ok" button click කිරීමෙන් එසේ වෙනස් කෙරේ.

• Width - Textarea එකේ පලල (width) default ප්‍රමාණය 100% ( එපමණ keyboard එකේ පලල) වේ. එය අවශ්‍ය ප්‍රමාණයට වැඩිකල (උදා:- 150%) හෝ අඩුකල (උදා:- 50%) හැකිය .
• Height- Default උස (height) ප්‍රමාණය 100pxකි. එයද අවශ්‍ය ලෙස වෙනස් කිරීමට හැකිය.
• Font size - Default අකුරුවල ප්‍රමාණය (font size) 200% වේ. එයත් වුවමනානම් ඉහත පරිදිම වෙනස්කල හැක.
• Keyboard text size - Default keyboard අක්ෂර ප්‍රමාණය (font size) 200% වේ. එයද අවශ්‍ය ලෙස වෙනස් කිරීමට හැකිය.
• Fixed keyboard and/or menu – Selection box එක තෝරාගතහොත් keyboard හෝ/සහ menu එක monitor screen එකේ ස්ථීර තැනකට පැමිණවිය හැක.
• Default - Default button එක මගින් වෙනස්කල වටිනාකම් පලමු ප්‍රමාණයට ආපසු ගෙන එයි.
